I have an elf eared ewe... she was bred to a totally unrelated ram... she has an elf 
eared baby.
I have one of her normal eared daughters... she was bred to the same ram.. she had 
normal eared twins.

To me, this shows that elf ears show up when they feel like it ;-) unrelated rams have little affect.
