Morning, This is only my point of view on the weak lambs. Not all the weak lambs are a genetic problem with the ewe, the ram, or the line a sheep is from. There could be many reasons for a weak lamb, and I could not let one die without fighting for its life. We all have to do what we have to do when it comes to our own flocks. If I had let the two lambs die that were weak I would have missed out on a interesting, though tiring, experience. Plus, I would wonder if I had let something die that might have been my best producer. There are many reasons for a weak lamb, the first thing I will do is to see if this problem was created by me. Some may think me hard hearted but I'm not sure of the
wisdom in bottle feeding lambs that the mothers don't
feed. Isn't it better to let the weak ones go than to
possibly contaminate the gene pool of a herd? If the
ewe does not care for any of her offsprings wouldn't
you be better off with her in your freezer?
