Hi Sue, I did not realize there were that many Barbados Blackbelly (polled) on the breeders list. I am wondering if some of the breeders have Barbado and are listing that the ewes are polled and rams are horned. I really do not know and that is a good question. I know the President of BBSAI has to herds one Barbado (horned) and the other Barbados Blackbelly sheep . I am not sure if there are other breeders or the number of breeders are raising 2 herds.
Dealing with inbreeding, one might read "Making New Bloodlines Using the Only Ram You Have" by Carol Elkins. I also guess you can look at it that if one believes in Adam and Eve then we are all inbred. I have not had any problems with my stock of Barbados Blackbelly sheep. Might I assume that all these sheep are inbred with each other and no knew blood has been introduced since??? Please take no offence, but have their been inbreeding problems showing up? Thanks for answering my questions.
