Larry, I know this might be a stupid question, but are you sure it is not 
the afterbirth? The afterbirth often looks like several red water balloons 
hung together on a string and it will hang from the vagina after birthing. 
If it looks like that, then you shouldn't pull on it or push it back in. 
Call a vet to make sure.
