Hello Chris B.

I have also found that Mother Nature sometimes gives the body a rest;
therefore you have the delay that you and everyone else have breeding back
to back. Even though at times we have this delay I feel breeding this way
is more natural as if they are in the wild. But there are always pros and
con in most things we do.

I have to agree, my ram stays with the flock year round. No problems and I
usually have lambs about every 7 to 8 months(last year 6 months!).

But this year is the first exception in several years of raising BBs. For
some unknown reason, though they all appear in great shape, my ewes that
lambed in the beginning of January are just now preparing to lamb again.
OVER 10 months so far! Oh well, the 6-month turnarounds I had were just last
year(Jan03/July03/Jan04), so maybe they decided to take a break. :)

Mike,

I have always bred back to back with my sheep and goats. With my experience
and my experience only I have found if you put the ram/buck in within two
weeks one would get the next cycle of heat. I have found if I wait longer I
will miss some of the heat cycles. Some have stated the ram/buck will fight
and kill the lamb/kid breeding back this quickly but so far I have never had
this experience. I keep a ram/buck with my ewes/does all the time and have
not had any problems with back to back breeder and/or lambs/kids getting
injured from the ram/buck.
