Subject: Re: [blackbelly] Questions - Needing answere

Hi Kathy, Looking any animal in the eye is a challenge, or a threat to
the animal.Never look a dog in the eye, as some will respond by
attacking right then and there. Some will turn their eyes and head away,
but keep glancing out of the corner of their eye to see if you are still
threatening them. You can look at them for a moment but then look away,
then back at them again. But, never, ever, just stare, or look for any
length of time. This is one of the reasons that little children get
bitten so often. They are at eye level, looking right in the eyes and
getting closer and closer to the animal. The result is an animal put
down for being mean when all they were really doing is what comes
naturally. Protecting themselves when challenged. And , yes, some go
totally Cujo on you. It is the same for a ram. Watch the nature shows..
when a bighorn sheep is about to attack, or tussle another ram he looks
at him, in the eye, as he backs up to get his position for ramming his
challenger. A ewe will lower her head and stomp her hoof on the ground
to warn you away. Before she rams you. (the flocks lead ewe will anyhow,
not all will do this but she will.) Hope this gives you some info that
you can use.
Einar
