My first time ewes usually have a small bag. They usually
have a single the first time and twin thereafter. I provide grass
hay just for rumen health and for their entertainment. They get
their nutrition from this simple mix: Two pounds of whole corn
to one pound of alfalfa pellet. They have free choice salt and a
mineral mix. I start them on a half pound of the corn/alfalfa mix
and work up to 2 lbs per head. Of course if you have alfalfa hay
available you could just supplement that with the corn. The pellets
are nice in that the ewes can eat more of the pellet than the hay
because of lack of room for much roughage when they are getting
into late pregnancy. This provides calcium/phosphorous in the
correct ratio for a simple mix without a lot of ingredients. Mona in Va
