Category: Install Problem (example) Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Can't find X Initial Comment: I'm a complete newbie so pls forgive about such a silly question. I first installed v 0.61 withouth any problem from the RPM I found in my distribution (Mandrake 8). Later I removed it and try to compile the 0.65 version, but when I run ./configure the next error appears: BB requires the X window system libraries and headers I'm sure the X is installed ( since the previous version of BB worked ^^ ). Hope U could help me. Federico ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2002-11-02 10:51 Message: Logged In: NO Thanks a lot. I worked just fine. Now I enjoying it. ^^ I have not won the war against my ignorance but at least I have won a battle. ^^ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2002-10-31 17:20 Message: Logged In: NO When you try to compile a program from source, you need the headers & libraries for each specific package. While you have X installed (and working by the sounds of it), it sounds as if you do not have the development libraries required to compile blackbox. You have the files required to run X, but not the files required to compile X (hopefully that makes sense) While I can not find the exact name for Mandrake 8.0, it is normally in the form of XFree-devel X.X.X (for example; under 9.0 it is XFree86-devel 4.2.1) If you find the right rpm and install it, then blackbox should compile fine. So do not worry about asking a silly question once in a while. Most Linux distributions ship libraries in two pieces -- a runtime piece that all programs use and a development piece that is needed to compile programs. You probably only have the first piece installed. I can not tell you the exact name for the other package but it is probably xlib-devel or something similar ending in -dev or -devel. The reason the last rpm worked is because you had the main runtime piece installed and did not need to actually compile it yourself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=428681&aid=630862&group_id=40696 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] List archives: http://asgardsrealm.net/lurker/splash/index.html Trouble?
