Often books that I have read have multiple prefaces for 2nd, 3rd, etc editions. I just looked at two books, Tannenbaum's Computer Networks, 4th Edition and Stroustrup's C++, 3rd Edition. Tannenbaum uses one preface, Stroustrup has three.
