I don't really do it for myself.  It's more of logging the results so I 
can help others if the question arises.

Actually, the test results give me an idea of the care that upstream 
programmers put into the program.  If all tests pass, then I have a 
little more confidence.  If the package builds with no gcc warnings, I 
get even more confidence.
