MIT-krb5 as Heimdal left the BLFS book. Yes you're right, Samba recommends Heimdal (i read that somewhere in their prerequisite wiki page) and indeed, there is something included in the source tree. But there is also a "--with-system-mitkrb5" switch for configure.
