BTW, this is just some random testing system with 7.9-rc2 - I'm
fairly sure that I used a *current* binary back in February (to
check it would install ok), and I possibly ran the binary updater
too. On my machine with the source install, I have (in texlive)

\def\texinfoversion{2015-05-06.11}

With the binary I just downloaded, I have

\def\texinfoversion{2016-03-22.15}

If your texlive is also from binary and you get anywhere, let me know
of the new commands (if they do indeed need to be changed), or else
if I need to build the package before trying to build the docs, and I
can see if the docs build on my tex from source system - that will
have been from last May's source.

I did have success. I just needed to download more stuff. It's about 1.7G right now. I basically downloaded everything except the non-english collections, bibtex, xetex, metafont, and some fonts.

All the files in ffmpeg built without complaint using the current instructions.

Hopefully I can get ffmpeg checked out tomorrow. There are about 15 packages that reference it as dependencies, so I need to check those out too.
