I didn't get any of those messages:
Have you tried seeking "qtwebengine" in the log? What I have above is the
build log starting at the first occurence of "qtwebengine"
OK, I've found them now (but not the first occurrence in my build).
Yes, a full make does something else to qtwebengine before entering the
real part of teh build.
Arghh, yes, I mostly agree and mine too is using internal copies.
Ouch.
System zlib or minizip not found. Using Chromium's copies.
System libwebp or libwebpdemux not found. Using Chromium's copies.
System jsoncpp not found. Using Chromium's copy.
System opus not found. Using Chromium's copy.
System libsrtp not found. Using Chromium's copy.
System snappy not found. Using Chromium's copy.
SSL............................... Using system NSS
ICU............................... Using internal copy (Default,
force system ICU with WEBENGINE_CONFIG += use_system_icu)
FFMPEG............................ Using internal copy (Default,
force system FFMPEG with WEBENGINE_CONFIG += use_system_ffmpeg)
Proprietary codecs (H264, MP3).... Not enabled (Default,
enable with WEBENGINE_CONFIG += use_proprietary_codecs)
I suppose I'll need to attempt to decipher those hints about
WEBENGINE_CONFIG in the future.
Same here +:
PostgreSQL ........... no
I still build postgresql client on my desktops, in the vain hope
that I might find time to get back to trying to index my physical
music media (CDs, vinyl, etc).
Overall, I now feel worried about all these internal third-party
libs. But, running ldd on /opt/qt5/lib/libQt5WebEngineCore.so
I can see among many other system libs -
libz.so.1 => /lib/libz.so.1 (0x00007feda01b5000)
libicui18n.so.57 => /usr/lib/libicui18n.so.57 (0x00007fed9f675000)
libicuuc.so.57 => /usr/lib/libicuuc.so.57 (0x00007fed9f2cd000)
libicudata.so.57 => /usr/lib/libicudata.so.57 (0x00007fed9d84d000)
So zlib (it that was what it really meant, rather than some zip
library) and icu appear to be using system libs.
I just did a quick test of some random video from the front page of
youtube - works, so either one of the other Qt5 libs is linking to
ffmpeg or else it really did use a shipped copy. As we say here,
"it never rains, but it pours". I'm not always averse to shipped
libs if they are only used in one package, particularly if there is
no separate upstream, but that doesn't apply to ffmpeg.
Thanks for the hint - I'll add researching system libs in
qtwebengine to my 'todo' pile, but no idea when I'll get it.
I'll leave that to you to sort out for now: I'll be happy to run testing
builds, though, and I may come back to help later. My current problem is
that still qupzilla tells it cannot display correctly a page after
displaying it for a while (5 sec or so). I guess it is a GCC 6 issue,
but I do not know how to be sure, nor how to debug that. Actually, I am
with LXQt in a VM, and maybe this is a DM or qemu issue.
