It's a question of familiarity. Randhir is right, IMHO. Most of you guys
have run alsa for years, and know the ropes.
I have run with OSS until now, and after the first time, all was easy.
Alsa adds several steps to this process, and a number of gotchas. I have
still to sort an alsa based sound system, and that sort of advice will
be most helpful to me. BLFS _not_ unmuting the channels, or warning
about the dummy device is crazy. Remember you have to support the second
half of 'FBBG'. The book has to BE good, or thorough. The idea isthat a
twit could read the book, and if he did that right, his system would
work.
