No other hardware driver info is listed in BLFS, nor does it need to be.
There are simply too many possibilities due to the range of hardware.
Agreed, and chapter 38 of BLFS quite properly says simply "In the Device
Drivers Sound Advanced Linux Sound Architecture section of the kernel
configuration, select the settings and drivers appropriate for your
hardware." But I couldn't see any appropriate settings for my hardware,
and I only got it to work by building the snd-hda-intel module from the
alsa-driver source. Did I miss something here? I was quite surprised
that the book had no section on the alsa-driver package, as it's been
pretty immaculate in covering everything else.
I don't understand the comment about compiling the ALSA stuff as
modules, since it should work fine either as builtin or modules.
alsa-driver-1.0.12rc1/configure stopped at line 3878:
if test "$CONFIG_SND" = "y"; then
{ { echo "$as_me:$LINENO: error: You have built-in ALSA in your kernel."
&5
echo "$as_me: error: You have built-in ALSA in your kernel." >&2;}
{ (exit 1); exit 1; }; }
