I suspect you just missed it... that driver is listed in menuconfig as
"Intel HD Audio" under the "PCI drivers" submenu of ALSA support. No
need for separate alsa-driver packages.

That would have been nice! But as a sanity check, the list of PCI devices I'm offered in menuconfig is below (kernel 2.6.11.12) & I can't see Intel HD Audio there. Why would it be missing?
