Yes, I understood the problem after reading your solution.  However, I 
wonder if you've pinpointed my problem.  You mention Py2cairo is the 
Python 3 version of cairo.  However, I use Python-2.7.3 and Beyond 
Linux® From Scratch - Version 2012-04-29 states the following:

    Py2cairo Dependencies

    Required

       Python-2.7.3 and cairo-1.12.0

So, should Python-3.2.2 be listed as the Py2cairo requirement or am I 
off base yet again?
