I always like to tell people one thing: Follow book, book good! Or, if you are modifying instructions make sure you modify all of them. This is the problem with gdm: gdm-welcome][1615]: PAM _pam_load_conf_file: unable to open /etc/pam.d/system-account It looks like you did not rebuild shadow after you've built linux pam and/or you did not create PAM configuration files as described on BLFS shadow page. This isn't related, but you might suffer from performance loss in gnome. (EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory It looks like your kernel is missing "i915" DRM module or "kernel mode setting (KMS)" is not enabled in the kernel.
