I'm currently building a system *without* the old libXfont (I'm
using libXfont2, for xorg-server-1.19.0). So far, only a very few
packages have not built without libXfont (details are on -dev,
basically bdftopcf plus the old Xorg fonts). Everything else so far
has worked ok (the one issue with glxgears in fluxbox (but not in
icewm) is almost certainly not related to this). So, I started
looking for old packages, to see what would break without libXfont -
for modern desktops, TTF or OTF fonts are generally assumed so I do
not expect problems there.

The oldest desktop in the current book seems to be lxde. That has
all built fine for me, and using startlxde it is mostly working
adequately. But it seems to only have one desktop/workspace, which
is somewhat restrictive even for my testing. Maybe I'm missing a
secret "do this to change desktop" command ? Google suggests that
obconf is needed : I have installed lxappearance-obconf, which is a
plugin for lxappearance, but I can't see any way of changing
anything re openbox in lxappearance. Any ideas, please ?
