I have now compiled everything from BLFS that smells like "input" (but
leaving out VMware, Wacom etc. stuff which I don't own) and I'll retry

Also after getting the input to work, I suggest using one of the base
window
managers (fluxbox, icewm, openbox, or sawfish) instead of twm.
yes, I intend to do that eventually, but twm seemed like a good testbed
for my first (GUI) time ;)
That is exactly why twm is in the book.
