Al, if you're happy with the free one, then stick to it, otherwise the 
benefits of the paid one are:
1. Faster update server
2. The ability to change how often AVG scans for viruses, for example it can 
scan weekly instead of daily.
3. The ability to create custom scheduled scans.
4. Technical support via e-mail.

Yes, there is a paid version, and it's called AVG Pro. You can try it out
for 30 days, or purchase it, from www.grisoft.com. Hope that helps.
