Apart from what Joseph is talking about, the first sort of small thing I'd
check out is possible oxidisation on the actual surface of the card.

Just try rubbing it's conductive surface on a roughish surface (not hard or
anything, just want to double check that it, for example, doesn't just have
a form of oxidisation built up on it's surface.

This is something I've heard about for a while, but, FWIW, on my spare
cellphone, which is around 4 years old, around every 2 weeks, I have to take
the Sim card out, and I then just lightly rub a penknife on both the surface
thereof, and on the actual contacts inside the back panel of the cellphone,
and then it works fine immediately.

Might also just be something small that ended up inside the slot as well,
and I find on my one laptop, that when it doesn't recognise things like my
USB flash drive, I normally just tap that thing (the drive, not the laptop),
on the desk, then when I put it back in, it starts working again. You can
also try using something like a very flat, but not loose earbud to make sure
that the actual slot is clean/empty (funny enough my sisters one friend
reckons she's apparently got a whole colony of very small ants that seem to
spend some time inside her laptop, but it's the very first time I've ever
heard of anything like that, and told her to try out some sort of sonic
effect to get rid of them).

Lastly, I'll just say don't be rough in any way when trying out these
things, and Joseph might be more accurate, but it is just another side of
things I'd consider possible.

Stay well
