I received an Olympus DS50 for Christmas. Let me say that this is the most
blind friendly digital recorder I have ever owned. On the other hand, the
software player provided is not very blind friendly at all. It is supposed to
make it possible to perform some of the functions using your PC. The time and
date settings on the DS50 do not talk. The menus are quite extensive but the
more advanced capabilities are not spoken and require sighted help. All in
all, the unit is well designed and an excellent recorder. But even on the front
pannel, there are buttons which do not speak. The DS50 is able to record live
music in stereo and produce really high quality work. As a note taker, it is
well suited for use by the visually impaired.
