John, I bought a ds 40 and have not played around with it yet although a 
sighted friend and I did a few things with it last week.  You're right about 
the front buttons' not speaking.  And the two sets of directions that some 
listers sent along won't read off the computer.  They are supposed to be 
readable as Windows media player so I must be doing something wrong or else 
the version of wmp that I have installed isn't the correct version.  Thanks
