Lenny, my windows defender does not appear in the system tray either. However, it is installed and is running right now because I told it to scan. As a result, it appears in the system tray as "scan in progress." Now, I have no idea whether or not it will find anything but I do know that I checked a lot of boxes in the menu that I got to on the programs page. It is set ot scan every day at 2:00 a m so I may change that so that I can keep on it during its daytime scan. And I, also, appreciate Rick's help on this matter. marilyn
