Simplest is most likely a twisted pair network cable where you get a normal cat5 network cable with the wires 5 and 7 swapped around (think it's those two), and you can then assign fake IP addresses to both machines - normally in the range of 192.168.1.xxx, but obviously differing from each other, and you can then share drives/folders to be accessed 'via the network'.
