Hi, I like the Western Digital brand. I've have heard of people having issues with the Lacie brand more than WD. Keep in mind, with large drives, the risk is there for failure. A large key to keeping a USB drive alive is to make certain that you eject the drive before unhooking it. This simple task will help prolong the life of the drive.
If you could hold off on your purchase I would wait for the 1TB Premium drives to come down a little more. I recently saw one for $209. These drives are nice because they have a RAID configuration that mirrors all data on two drives (i.e. 2 500gb drives). If one fails you simply replace it and move on. Just a thought.
