Letting your computer go into sleep mode after five hours will not harm it
and will save energy. I have my computer set to go into standby mode
after
30 minutes of inactivity to conserve energy, and I shut it down at night.
However, if you want to set your computer so that it never goes into sleep
mode, go to the Power Options page of the Control Panel, tab to the
standby
and hibernate combo boxes in the Power Schemes tab and make sure that both
are set to "never".

Hi Chris and others, I recently bought a friends computer. It goes into
sleep mode after five hours. I have heard it is easier on the computer.
I am interested in knowing what is best also.
is there a way to keep it from going to sleep if that is not good for the

I've just had an interesting lecture off my girlfriend on what we should

to our computers at night. According to her, we should shut it down to

both memory and hard disk usage. Also, we could be hacked because the
Windows session hasn't really ended when we put our computers in standby

sleep, depending on the version of Windows. What do you all think of
this?
