Hi Chris,
Thanks for responding to my question. I got several responses as you stated,
but got one with the following instructions that worked. But again I
appreciate your help, but as you know there is not always one answer for any
computer task.
Brian
The answer is yes. As long as both computers are seeing each other and you
can access each others drives or shared documents, you can do this. As far
as which processor it uses, can't really answer that one but I have done it
before.
On the computer that the drive is on, go t to my computer.
Arrow to the cd/dvd drive.
Hit the windows application key.
Arrow to share and hit enter.
Check share this drive on the network.
Set your setting for what you want to be able to do with the drive, for
example change files.
Save your settings and reboot the computer.
Note, It will prompt you that sharing a root of a drive is not smart or
recommended, can't remember which wording, just share it anyway. You should
then be able to access anything you put in that drive.

As far as I know this can't be done out of the box, but I did hear of a
program, given away for free from www.giveawayoftheday.com, which allows
you to manipulate CD's and DVD's across a network.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] CD & DVD drives & sharing on network places
Hi friends,
I'm wondering if I can share an external CD, DVD drive under my network
places. I'm using a Hewlett Packard Netbook with Windows XP Pro which
doesn't have a CD or DVD drive on it and a Windows 2000 Pro on a Del
desktop which has a very slow processer. where I use the netbook computer
there isn't enough room for the external drive to sit and I would need a
23 foot cable to make the connection. I'd like to connect the external
drive to the desktop computer and share it on the network and use the
netbook computer to operate the external drive. My question is, can this
be done and which processer will be used to read the CD's I'm ripping
from or burning to. Both computers are connected to the same wireless
router. Any help in this dilemma would be appreciated.
Brian
