Hi Deanne,
Yes, the only reason to connect it to the computer is if you want to record,
or your computer has better sound than your radio.
Otherwise, you can just listen to it on any fm radio that is in range of the
transmitter.

Is it possible to simply transmit the audio from the TV to the portable
radio? Or do you need the computer?

Hi Elaine,
It has been pointed out to me, that in my original reply
to your question, that I neglected to mention how your computer was going
to
recieve the fm signal.
In addition, to the fm transmitter, you will need a portable FM radio that
you can connect to your soundcard.
The transmitter will be connected to your TV, to transmitt the signal,
and the radio connected to your computer can recieve that signal, and
output
the audio to your soundcard, enabling you to hear the audio on your
computer
speakers.
You will need a patch cord to connect the radio to your soundcard.
If my omission of this detail caused any confusion,
I apologize for that.
Rick Justice
