Hi. I have done System Restore several times with screen readers and it
works very well. To date, I have never had a computer fry on me due to the
system being restored.

When you go to the System Restore program, you will see a page similar to a
Web page containing radio buttons. The radio buttons will give you choices
of "restore my system" and "create a system restore point" ... Or words to
that effect. If your goal is to bring your system back to an earlier time,
you'll need to use your arrow keys and choose the Restore my System to an
Earlier Time choice. You will need to press the spacebar to activate that
radio button, as you would if you were doing it on a web page.
Now, press tab to go to the Next button.
Press enter, which brings up the screen where you choose the date you want
to go back to.
Now, here is where things get a little tricky ... But just a little. You
are presented with a calendar of dates, probably for the current month.
Some dates are in bolded text, and these are the dates your computer will
allow you to go to. You will need to turn on the feature where JAWS
announces text attributes to hear this info. Before I realized this I used
the Jaws cursor to navigate through the days and then used insert-f to get
Jaws to tell me whether the text was bolded or not. You can use the Jaws
Speech and Sounds Manager to turn it on automatically; if you need help
doing this just ask and I'm sure someone on the list will help you.
Ok, are you with me so far? If I haven't scared you away yet you need to
choose the day of the month to resotre your system; you'll run across
numbers like 1, 2, 3, etc. which are the days of the current month.
If you're using the Jaws cursor to navigate through those day choices, use
the numpad slash key to left click the one you want.
If you're using the PC cursor, press the spacebar on the day you wish.
Now, you will see choices for the day you selected, so if you selected 4
you'll see something like
April 4, 2010 9:53 AM Restore Point

If there are several options or restore points for that day you will see all
of them on that screen.
By using the keyboard, you should be able to use the spacebar to choose
which restore point you want.
Tab to next and press enter. At some point, you will be asked to confirm
that you want to do this, and the day you selected will be listed.

I realize, that, if you've never done a system restore before this may sound
so overwhelming that you might feel it would be better to go back to using
an electric typewriter. To be blunt sometimes I long for those days. <grin>
However, once you do it enough times and become familiar with the screens it
will become simpler.

Please forgive me if my instructions could have been better or if I'm not
getting the wording of everything exactly as it appears.

David

I am two weeks away from the end of my semester, which means also in the
middle of 4 major final projects. I am afraid to do the system restore,
I've never done one. How do I go about that? Does JAWS work through he
entire process? The timeing is also why it is so difficult to suddenly be
without my Outlook information.
Warmly,
Melissa

Since you have tried most of the suggestions I was going to bring up, how
about doing a system restore?

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Problem with outlook

Hello everyone. I am having a bizarre problem with my outlook. Out of
nowhere, I go to open Outlook, and it won't open, saying "cannot open the
Outlook Window", and no matter what I do, I cannot get into my emails and
contacts. I have had this problem once before, and ended up having to
create a new outlook profile, and lost all 400 of my contacts, essentially
starting from scratch. I have now had to do that again, so I now have three
Outlook profiles on my laptop, 2 completely unusable. I've tried
re-installing Outlook, also tried updating, repairing, and rebooting.
Somewhere all my contacts and old emails are here, I just can't get to them.

I am using Windows 7, with JAWS 11. Can someone shed some light on what the
issue is, and is it fixable?
