Hi You're welcome. I'm sorry that I did not explain in my initial post what was taking place. The regsvr32 is just your system's server for all the DLLs. The DLL files contain some code to be executed across applications. They do not have main entry points such as the executables (.exe), so they have to be called by running program. Two interesting examples of code contained in DLL are the management of Open and Save files and handling of SSL connections by some programs. Unless a DLL file is registerd by the regsvr32, it cannot function. In the case of the shell32.dll, it is the one that is responsible for the smooth running of the main shell. Many programs make use of this DLL--examples are the file managers (7zip File Manager comes to mind). Some viruses may attack or corrupt your factory DLLs. This is so with some rogue autorun.inf that execute some malicious apps. So we want to correct the behaviour of our shell by reinstalling its DLLs. In fact, there are some registry tweaks you can play with, but due to the nature of this list where we have beginners, intermediate and advanced computer users play along with each other, I tend to avoid getting into these as they may compromise our machines. Since the problem in question called for urgent response, it was safe just to state the actions to be taken without giving so many explanations. Cheers, Ishe Knowledge humbles great men, astonishes the common man, and puffs up the little man. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Boodram" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, June 19, 2010 7:19 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] can someone please helpmeregardingmylaptopand the C:drive. > David and Ishe, > I also tried this and it worked.
