Just arrow to the one you want then tab to ok & you are all set.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] KeyTips in Word 2007 and JAWS Re: Quick AccessToolbar Word 2007

I turned on tutor messages and everything else and
JAWS 10 is now speaking the shortcuts and something like "press ALT followed by 4" when I arrow to Paste Special in the Quick Access Toolbar along with a lot of excess verbiage. I downloaded the FS training module for Office 2007 with JAWS and Magic and it said that KeyTips weren't turned on by default in Magic. It hasn't told JAWS users how we can check to see they are turned on
yet. Does anyone know where I can look? I'd love to be able to turn off
tutor messages and all that excess and still be able to hear the KeyTips in
Word 2007 if possible.

By the way, I've found the training module helpful and I believe it has
mentioned some things about using Office 2007 with JAWS that the textbook
hasn't covered yet.

Thank you,

Margaret

Thank you. I'm making some progress, but am still confused and I may not
have explained my problem clearly enough.

The instructions I have from the Access Technology Institute textbook seem
to differ from yours. The ones I have to access the quick access toolbar
are to press ALT, arrow up once. Then to right or left arrow to navigate
among the choices. It goes on to say that save is 1, undo is 2 and redo
last action is 3. JAWS is not speaking any of these numbers and the only
way I've found so far to hear JAWS speak the shortcut keys is to route JAWS
to PC when focus is placed on the item in the quick access toolbar. I
discovered that paste special has a shortcut of Control-Alt-V which is
helpful and will save me from going into the quick access toolbar if I can
remember it, but I want to be comfortable with the feature.

When I'm in the Quick Access Toolbar, from what the textbook says, I'm
expecting to hear JAWS say something like "1 Save" "2 Undo" 3 redo last
action" when I left or right arrow among the default options and the only
indication I found so far about what number goes with which action is from
the text book. Do I have to configure anything in JAWS to hear them or are the numbers only heard after customizing the quick access toolbar? ALT plus 1 works to save, so the numbers associated with the items are there-I'm just
not hearing them.

Isn't JAWS supposed to say something like "Paste Special Control-Alt-V" when
focus is on the item in the quick access toolbar?

Thank you,

Margaret

Hi,

If you go to the ribbon, and press Tab or shift+Tab to the Quick Access
toolbar, you will hear JAWS telling you of the menu item, followed by the
shortcut keys, and then the Alt+Number.
For example, if you have on your quick access the Font... as the fourth
item, you can easily access it by Alt+4.
It only takes an alt key plus the position of the function you wish to
access.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Quick Access Toolbar Word 2007

   Hi All,

I have a couple of questions about working with the Quick Access Toolbar
in
Word 2007 using JAWS and XP Home with SP3 and hope maybe someone can help
make my life a little easier.

The textbook I have indicates that at least the default items in the quick access toolbar are numbered. JAWS 10 here doesn't speak any numbers and I
have to arrow to the items and hit enter to select what I want in the
quick
access toolbar. I hit ALT and up arrow to get to it.

I successfully added paste special to the quick access toolbar and was
wondering if additions are supposed to be numbered so I could just press 4
or whatever from within the quick access tool bar instead of arrowing to
press special since I use the command a lot?

The textbook was written with JAWS 10 in mind and if JAWS is supposed to
speak numbers in the quick access toolbar, how do I go about getting it to
do it? I might want to add other items, but don't want to have to re-do
everything.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Margaret
