Hello,
I tried going through the start menu and going to the shutdown split
button. When I hit the enter key, it took awhile to shut down so I did
it by going to the desktop and hitting alt f-4. I landed on shutdown and
it worked beautifully.

Hello there;
Well, there's 2 ways you can shutdown;
1, go to desktop and press alt+f4 you will be asked, what you want the
computer to do, so, use arrow key and choose shutdown.
The second way is,
Go to start menu, you hear,
Menu search edit,
Just left arrow you should land on shut down split button, just press enter.
As for the updates?
Yu can find these, by going to desktop,
Highlight computer,
Bring up properties,
Now tab and enter on,
Check for updates,
Then you can tab to see how many updates there are,
Or conversely,
You can choose update from the shutdown menu, and the computer will update
then shut down.
Maybe one of the updates is the service pack 1, and you will need to check
that one.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] a problem shutting down in windows 7
Hi, everyone,
I just got a new computer last week. It has windows 7 home premium on it
but I'm having a bit of a problem shutting down when I do it through the
start menu. It takes quite awhile to shut down. A friend of mine told me
to hit the power button but not as if to do a hard shutdown. I'm also
being asked to install new updates all the time after I've already done so.
Is there something I might be doing wrong? Any helpful hint or
suggestion will be very much appreciated.
Thanks so much in advance.
Rosemarie
