Hi Steve,

1 thing you might want to check is, open Internet Explorer, Alt + T, for 
tools, Press the letter O, for options, control + Tab to the programs tab, 
tab a couple of times & make sure that Outlook Express is highlighted as 
your default email client / program.  Take care.

  Hello Rose, no I don't have outlook express set to plain text. Not sure 
why
  it happened, in fact I noticed the change after I tried to install Google
  Chrome. I have, however re-installed IE 8 and all seems to be working now.
