Hi Lois,

Believe me, I totally understand! Do you have WinAmp set as the default
player? Also, do you want WinAmp to play all sound files instead of Windows
Media Player? Here is a note I have saved for making WinAmp the default
player.

Question:
Recently there was a discussion on this list that provided instructions to
make Winamp the default player. Try as I might, I can not locate this
information. Would somebody pleas point me in the right direction?

Answer there are 2 answers below for the question above:
Answer #1: If you have set Program Access and defaults on your start menu
then you can
do this here.

Alternatively press application key on an MP3 file .
Select Open With
Do not click on WinAmp at this stage if it is here in this submenu.
Cursor down to end of menu list to Select Choose Program .
A dialogue box will open giving a list of programs to open the MP3 file
with. Cursor down until you hear WinAmp .
Press tab to always open files to this type with this program and press
space bar to check this option.
Press enter and you should be ok.

Answer #2: I might add to David's instructions that you can keep other
media players
from taking over as the default player by enabling Winamp Agent.
While in Winamp do a control p for preferences.
Type the letter f for file types.
Tab to, Winamp agent and press your spacebar to check it.
Tab to close and press spacebar.
This will prevent other players like Windows Media Player from taking over
as the default.

Hope this helps.
Take care.

Mike, I am sorry if I made you think windows7 was the problem, but I have
been trying to get it to work all afternoon.

  Hi Lois,

I must apologize to you. I thought I was running WinAmp 5.63 but, I'm
running 5.04! The steps I gave may not be the same in 5.63 as in 5.04.
Hopefully someone will give steps for version 5.63. This setting has to
do
withh Winamp only, not the operating system you're running.
  Take care.

Mike, I did that, frown. I don't know if I left something checked that I
shouldn't have or what. Win7 is so new to me and I haven't installed
winamp
in a long time. Makes me wish I still had xp.

      Hi Lois,

      Try the following:
      1. Open WinAmp from your desktop or start menu shortcut.
      2. Press control + P, for preferences, this should put you in a tree
  view.
      3. Arrow up or down until you are on File Types.
      4. Tab to, Associated File Types, All button & press the spacebar.
Make
sure you press the spacebar because pressing enter won't work.
      5. If you also want winamp to play your audio cd's tab until you hear
associate with audio cd's and press the space bar to check it. Tab to
  the
close button and hit enter. Now alt + F4 to close winamp. Hope this
  helps.
      Take care.
