Lois,
To turn sounds on, do the following:
Click on the tools menu in IE.
Arrow up twice to find the internet options dialog, and click to open it.
Click the advanced settings option by shift tabbing once and pressing space
bar.
You will see an accelerated graphics option, which you can ignore.
Arrow down to the accessibility tree view.
Item 4 is "play system sounds".
Check this by pressing enter.
Respond "OK" until you leave this dialog box.
