Hi My Hp 6000 has a physical button also. However, my acer is well basic. It assumes that I want the mouse pad on. My thought was that if I could create a hot key, it would act like the button on my other computer. I am going to give it a try anyway.

This work laptop has one of those "eraser" type mouse sticks in the middle of the keyboard. I'm thinking that if I turn off the mouse pad, the mouse stick will still be active. If not, the mouse dependent people will just have to move over to my side of the keyboard. Smile!! Thank you for the information. My one concern about turning it off is what do I do when I need sighted assistance occasionally? Is there some way of making a mouse pad toggle key combination? Turning off the 2 buttons below the mouse pad and the 3 above it is not necessary, just the actual mouse pad. But if the buttons get turned off as well, that is fine.
