I specifically use it when I want the original page to stay in background, for later reference, etc., so, while links don't really require it, but, it has it's uses - and for example, shift + mouse click on a link will also do the same thing in general.

Thanks Jacob.
Are there some links that require shift enter?
If so, how does one know when to use it and why?

Shift + enter specifically opens the link into a new window, instead of in the current window.

In XP home 14.0 and I E 8.
Many times when clicking on a link I have much more information by hitting shift enter instead of, just the enter button. Is there a way to know when one should use the shift enter combo instead of the enter button?

Thanks.
