Hi Rick, David and others,
Thanks for your reply. I will certainly give it a try even though I
am not really confident of a complete success. I have not done
anything like this before, but I am up to the challenge.
I must first get familiar with navigating narrator in windows7 OS. I
do have a windows7 laptop and I will play with narrator there before
I attempt to setup my desktop.
Wish me luck! Take care.

Hi Lenny,
Yes, you can perform the initial setup with Narrator.
It's certainly not going to be as fast as using Jaws,
but you can get it done.
1. Boot the computer, and wait a minute or so.
2. Press the key combination, Windows + U, this will open the Ease of Access
Center.
3. Now press the combination, Alt + N, to bring Narrator into focus.
4. Once you have Narrator talking, you can Alt Tab,around to find the
dialogue for the initial setup.
5. Take your time, and listen closely, and input the proper info and you
should be okay.
Don't remember the dialogues word for word, but if you find a skip button,
you can spacebar it, and complete
the setup later with Jaws.
Like I said, take your time, you'll get there.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Initial setup of new computer
Hi,
I have a new windows7 64 bits computer ready to fire up. As you know,
Jaws is not installed yet.
My question is this. Can I being blind do the initial setup using
narrator? If so, since I never use narrator, can someone give me some
guidance on how to use the narrator in a windows 7 OS environment? I
do have some basic ideas what to expect, but sighted help is not
possible even though my wife could be of some help. She is very
reluctant since she is afraid of screwing something up.
I would like to be able to do the setup with narrator so I can get to
the point to install Jaws. If the opinion from the list don't think
that this is possible, then I will have to call someone to do the setup for
me.
Thanks for any advice and suggestions. I appreciate any help that I
can get. Take care.
Lennie
