Hi
I could be wrong, but the only way I know of to be completely certain of getting the router brand is to ask a sighted person. Once you have that you can search the web for the IP addresses used by the manufactorer. Sometimes the mottle number is not clear even to a sighted person. One trick to find the brand of router is: if you have your wireless on your router turned on, look in your wireless connection. If it is lleft in the basic format, it will say something like 2wire 482. Where 2wire is the brand and 482 is the mottle number. If you are lucky and are able to find this information under the wireless connection. it makes searching for the IP address faster.
    I hope this helps.

Hi Mark,

Thank you very much for your reply. I thought I had my router name & model#
saved somewhere but, I don't! I have all my modem info saved but, that
doesn't do me any good at the moment. Is there somewhere in the computer
that will tell me what brand the router is? I've looked in the device
manager & in the control panel but, I'm not sure if I looked in the correct
places. I'm running XP Pro, I forgot to mention this in my original post.
Thanks again.
Take care.
Mike

Hi Mike,
Nomemally, the router has an IP address that one puts in the address
bar of their web browser. If you know the name and mottle number of your
router, you can usually find the IP address on line. Anyway this should open
what looks like a web page. However, it is actually coming from within your
router. This page usually has all the access to the settings for the router.
One thing I do know from experience is that you may have to try a few
different IP addresses since manuactorers may use several for different
mottles ETC.
    I hope this helps.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Accessing My Router

Hi All,

I've been hearing a lot about Plug & Play needing to be turned off in the
router to help prevent someone from accessing it, how do I open the router
to check this setting? All help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all
very much.
Take care.
Mike
