I have the same issue with Ateraan. I keep returning there because it's
one of the best for rp I've found, though does have the grinding element
as well. However, I agree the staff, well mostly Andrew, sucks royally.
The players keep me there for now at least.
Unfortunately others I've tried just leave me disappointed. Then again,
I admit I'm picky. Every space game I've tried has a very immature
playerbase, except for star conquest but I find their staff intolerable
even way beyond Ateraan. I don't like permadeath either, so choices are
limited. I just couldn't get back into Clok to be honest.
