Nobody assumes that everyone has surround sound.  The demo is for those that 
do.  It's just that simple.  If you, like me, don't have a surround sound 
system yet, so be it.  And, again, this is not a game!  It is a 
demonstration.  Have you been reading the thread?  Right off the bat, in 
James North's very first response, he very clearly stated this.
