Hi. Why does it make you nervous to shutdown Jaws? I have done complete reinstalls of Windows, screen reader, etc unaided by speech, or any sight for that matter. Grin. It may come as some comfort that blind computer operators can do quite a bit of things sighted folks do with hard practice, and helpful aids. For example, refering back to my install of Windows. It is a little known fact outside the network admin comunity that most modern operating systems have a script installation. That is you write a script file which instructs Windows XP, Linux, etc how to install themselves properly. Only after the os is on you get down to business of getting a screen reader, and additional hardware, and apps going. Anyway, was just wondering what aspect of loosing contact withthe the screen reader bothered you. The main thing to remember is put things in place like an icon on your desktop, hot key, etc so that you can find the screen reader easily. Also It never hurts to know the exact path to the program you want to run. For example my screen reader I use is Window Eyes and I know if I do a Windows Key+R and type c:\wineys\wineyes.exe followed by enter it will launch Window Eyes directly.
