Tom, I agree with you. 40F is the absolute max for the temp inside the refrigerator. 36 or so would be a lot safer as many residential units do not have the ability to rapidly recover from room temperature items being placed in them. 0F would be the max I would like to see in my freezer. A -5F would be better. I really do not know how in the world any of us managed to survive childhood with all that fried chicken, potato salad and other goodies prepared for picnics.
