And one more warning! Never never reach into the auger area to clear anything,
even if the snow blower is not running. I know a guy that reached into the
auger , with the engine shut down, to remove a lodged stick, and lost three
fingers. The drive belt had enough tension still on it that when he loosened
the stick the auger came around and nailed him.

  Hi Folks,
One more thing, Do! Not! Put! Your! Hand! In! Front! Of the Exhaust!
  Chute!

That snow conimg out of the chute will cut your fingers off slicker than a
  knife..
A good snow blower (10 or so horse) will throw snow for a good 30 to 40
feet. It will also pick up any loose gravel and hurl it like a caterpault
(right through a car or house window)
I had a 10 horse snow blower in Colorado and it was a honey. My son-in-law
now has it and it still runs good after about 25 years of use.

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] How to Operate a Snow Blower

  Hi
Anyone who lives in snow country knows that the snowblower is one of the
most time- (and back-) saving inventions of all time.

  Steps:
  1.
Decide which of the two types of snowblowers you need. A single-stage blower
whirls the auger at high speed. A two-stage blower with a slower-moving
  auger has more power.

  2.
Get your snowblower serviced before snow falls.

  3.
Check the engine oil level, clutch, blower system, and chute positioning
  before starting.

  4.
Spray the discharge chute with silicone spray before use to reduce clogging.

  5.
Blow snow the natural direction from the impeller, usually to the right.

  6.
Check wind direction and work with the prevailing wind direction.

  7.
Avoid backing up; work in circles instead.

  8.
Try not to avoid blowing snow twice.

  Overall Tips:

If the weather forecast predicts snowfall, inspect the driveway and
sidewalks that will need to be cleared. Remove all objects that may cause
injury or damage the snowblower. Check the area again before starting the
  blower.

Know how to stop the machine quickly and shut the engine off.

  Overall Warnings:

If a hand or foot gets caught in the snowblower, serious injury is likely.
Keep all shields in place and keep hands and feet away from all moving
  parts.
