I had a thought on this thread, as I am planning on doing something similar.
If the driveway or area you plan on ploughing is relatively straight, narrow or a proper shape, say like a square or rectangle, heck, I don't see why you can't do it with a triangular shaped driveway, but why not set four by four railway ties down along the border the area to be ploughed. Drill holes through the four by four and straight into the driveway asphalt or whatever surface you have on there. Make sure the hole goes down deep enough to make sure those four by fours aren't going anywhere. Then, drive whatever fastening rod you choose to fasten that four by four to the ground. I was thinking of rebar, or something similar that won't bend or crack in the cold. This will give you a border for the snowblower to follow and guide by. The middle is a different story, and the middle will have to be gauged by distance or some other way, but essentially, you wouldn't be worried about doing your neighbour's driveway or anything else, like hit a car or the side of the house. If you find the snowblower gets caught at one particular point, you can stop the blower, go around the side, and make sure you haven't hit the tie at an awkward angle or something, which will allow you to get back on track. This would seem like the simplest of solutions. Another option, if you just want to clear a path so you can walk through to a shed or something like that, is to place the railway ties closer together, so they form a path, and you could run the blower through the little path you just built. Easy, peezy, Japanese-ee.
