Dale, I believe the rubber gaskets in the new nuts are square in cross section, but I'll check more carefully that could be it!
I don't see that the flanged end of the pipe looks distorted, but again, i'll check carefully. Since there is a plastic flange that fits inside the upper end of the small pipe which I might call a universal joint? maybe that nut doesn't need a rubber gasket. That might be keeping the nut from threading far enough up on the drain end to stayput. I'll have along weekend with Sue off at a music workshop to fill, so may as welll muck about with drains.
