Dear Dan:
You overlooked the possibility that the owner of the relocated fire place,
could cut a large whole directly over the location of the fire place in the
manner adopted by tent dwellers, which would allow the smoke to escape.

                Yours Truly,

                Clifford Wilson

My thoughts on taking an outside fireplace and moving it into your living
  room are as follows:

Hope you have some good insurance. although, they might invalidate your
  policy by doing this.

Aside from the issue of sparks and embers falling out and burning your
carpet, there is the little issue of the smoke. If this thing is sitting
in the middle of your living room, your house will fill with smoke from the
burning pile of wood. You can expect some pretty good smoke damage to the
ceiling of your living room at the least.

I would have to say this wouldn't be a very good idea.
