Lenny can't you tell if the circuit is on by the position of the switch? Usually when the handle of the switch is in the up position, power is on to the circuit.

Some days I can detect if the light is on but not all of the time. Years ago I had a neat smoke detector that screwed into a light socket and the bulb then screwed into this detector. The unit had rechargeable batteries. Whenever you turned on the light the unit would beep letting you know it was charging. I haven't seen any of them in years. Is there some alarm that will beep when the lights are turned on?
